Where Do We Turn in Our Darkest Days?
September 2025 turned out far heavier than I expected. You too? It may be one of the heaviest months American Christians have ever faced.
Every form of media overflows with reports of brutal stabbings, horrific school shootings, and, of course, the devastating assassination of Charlie Kirk. The intensity of all this evil and sin feels suddenly dark and suffocating. Confusing. Totally depraved. What is happening?
But even as we stagger under the shock of these horrific events, as believers, we have tools sitting at our disposal to stand firm in truth and gain new ground for God’s Kingdom.
Remember, this battle is NOT against flesh and blood. It’s NOT against people, parties, cultures, or different opinions. To focus our efforts on fighting with humans – whether in Facebook comments, in political parties, in church denominations, or with people of a different opinion – only strengthens the enemy’s ploy to divide and destroy God’s children.
This ugly battle we find ourselves thrust into is spiritual, against dark forces we can’t see. And the victory comes in the truth that Charlie gave his life for: an active, devoted, personal relationship with Jesus.
Please Keep In Mind:
This blog will not cover any political topics. The Forty Forty Challenge does not publicly endorse any party or platform, but we boldly advocate for wholehearted devotion to Christ.
This blog focuses on the FAITH of Charlie Kirk, one of the most courageous believers of our time. He did not live a lukewarm, fence-sitting faith. He radically and wholly lived to glorify God in all he did, impacting millions with the Gospel.
While we gain powerful lessons from Charlie’s faith, he wasn’t a perfect man, and I don’t want you to walk away holding Charlie as your highest standard. Jesus is our standard, and Charlie’s life was an excellent imitator of Christ. His example is a signpost pointing us to King Jesus.
Who Are These Challenges For?
They are not for you if…
❌ You are content with where your spiritual life is right now.
❌ You’re comfortable with your understanding of God and how your life reflects Him.
❌ You’re not open to being challenged and stretched out of your comfort zone.
❌ You don’t want your life to change very much.
These lessons are for you if…
✅ You feel a stirring in your heart that there’s more to your walk with God than what you’re living now.
✅ You want to be passionate and on fire for God, drastically changing the way you live your day-to-day life.
✅ You recognize your faith might be sleepy or apathetic, and you’re ready to change that.
✅ You want to move beyond a lukewarm faith and step into a deeper, more intimate, more intentional devotion to God.
These lessons are FAR more than cool stories about a great speaker, husband, and father. They are the practical, lived-out example of a committed relationship with God. As you read, you’ll see these lessons are convicting, challenging, and have the power to transform your life.
Let’s dive in. 👇
-
Prioritize Faith Over Comfort or Popularity
In an interview just a few months before his death, Charlie Kirk stated, “I wanna be remembered for courage for my faith…The most important thing is my faith in my life.”
This statement wasn’t just lip service to sound “Christian.” Every corner of Charlie’s life proved that his relationship with Jesus Christ was truly the most important priority in his life.
Think about it: Charlie had ample opportunity to pursue other claims to fame. He could have used his platform for any cause and quickly elevated himself among men. He could have rested easy in the lap of luxury and fame as a distinguished leader, safely surrounded by his supporters. He could have achieved the American Dream – fame, wealth, and security.
But in humility, Charlie correctly recognized that God is overwhelmingly worthy of EVERYTHING he had to give. That life-changing belief led Charlie to give back every bit of his human experience to making God known.
His voice.
His renown.
His family.
His work.
His talents.
His money.
His body.
His decisions.
His time.
His energy.
Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) Charlie filtered his choices through a lens of obedience to God’s Word rather than approval from others.
🤔 Do you prioritize temporary comfort over eternal impact?
🤔 What areas of your life are subtly guided by pursuing popularity or comfort?
Ask God for courage to prioritize Him in that area, trusting that His approval FAR outweighs anyone else’s.

Allow Scripture to Shape Your Day-To-Day Life
You’re probably somewhat familiar with the Bible. You might read it regularly. You might even quote it to your kids. You say you believe what it says.
👉 But let me ask you this: Does your life reflect that you believe it’s true?
If a stranger came and looked at your day-to-day life, would they say it proves that you believe what the Bible says is actually true?
Charlie Kirk allowed the truth of God’s Word to affect him far beyond morning devotions. He let it infiltrate and overtake his whole life – his daily choices, how he responded to challenges, how he spoke to people, how he spent his time, how he led his family.
But this moldability to God’s Word only comes when you’ve met the end of yourself. When you realize there is NO good in you without Christ! When you learn that God intends to empty you of yourself so HE can be made great through you.
In September 2020, Charlie shared on a podcast:
“The more I read, the more I live, the more I’m completely able to admit I’m a total, absolute sinner, and I fall short from the grace of God. … We have to get back to what being saved means. It means I was drowning in an ocean, and I happened to get picked up by a lifeboat, and that’s it. It’s not like I earned it or that I swam better than anyone else.”
🤔 Have you met the end of yourself?
🤔 Does your life become more empty of yourself so it’s filled more with Christ?
🤔 Do your daily choices prove that you believe Scripture is really true?
-
Share the Gospel With Courage
Charlie never shied away from talking about Jesus, even in risky or uncomfortable settings. Every conversation, interview, show, podcast, or public address opened up an opportunity to share Christ, even when he was met with skepticism or pushback. Charlie’s example reminds us that sharing your faith is God’s calling on EVERY believer, and it’s not reserved for pastors or ministry leaders.
In Joshua 1:9, God says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Remember, courage doesn’t mean an absence of fear, it means obedience despite fear.
Knowing God’s Word, praying for opportunities, and asking the Holy Spirit to guide you makes sharing your faith feel less intimidating. And it doesn’t have to be a huge act of public faith! Often God asks us to be faithful with the little things first – like inviting your neighbor to church or praying for a coworker.
Charlie modeled what it looks like to step out in bold obedience, knowing it wasn’t HIS efforts that made a difference, but God’s work through him. As he obeyed in the big and the small, Charlie trusted that God would multiply his efforts for His glory. And the world is bursting with God's glory through Charlie's obedience!

Don’t Take Spiritual Rejection Personally
If you look up videos of Charlie Kirk speaking with students on a college campus, you’ll likely see some serious, downright hateful rejection. As he discussed their questions with boldness, poise, and truth, people screamed obscenities at him, cursed him, threatened him, and even yanked his hat off his head at one point.
But Charlie recognized this hatred wasn’t a rejection of him, it was a rejection of Jesus – the light, the truth, the only true Life. When people resisted and criticized him, Charlie didn’t shrink back in resentment or bitterness. That resistance reflected a world of lost, hurting souls, and it fueled Charlie's compassion and empathy for those without Christ.
🤔 How easy is it to get offended when someone rejects you? It’s often instantaneous! But when you remember that your calling is to be obedient and faithful to God, NOT to earn mankind's approval, rejection loses that hurtful sting.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.”
As a child of God, YOU are set apart from the world for HIS glory. Not man's.
Your standard does not match the world's standard anymore – your standard comes from God alone. And that means if humans don’t approve of you because you follow God, allow that to soften your heart for the lost instead of hardening you against them in bitterness.
-
Smile Through Persecution
Even when he faced strong opposition, Charlie’s demeanor reflected deep joy and peace. When people treated him rudely and disrespectfully, Charlie still ended those conversations with a smile on his face. He took each person seriously, and he didn’t let their pushback steal his joy.
Charlie counted the cost of obedience. He reminds us that walking with God doesn’t mean your life is free of hardship. He lived out the truth that you can access TRUE joy and rest in God’s sovereignty even when the world hates you.
Even though people may throw rocks, speak hateful words, and shoot fatal bullets at your earthly body, you rest in safety in knowing God’s purpose prevails through your life. And in death. And when you walk in God's purpose, no matter who hates it, you're living out the reason God put you on this earth.
Smiling through persecution doesn’t mean you pretend that it doesn’t hurt or that it’s not hard. It means you live with a different goal, keeping your heart fixed firmly on God and His promises. And when you’re anchored to His truth, He is a shield and shelter around you, keeping your heart safe in His presence.
-
Defend Truth With Grace
Charlie modeled what it means to hold uncompromisingly to God’s truth without treating people harshly. In today’s culture, it’s far easier to swing to extremes – either water down truth to avoid offense or paint others in a bad light to prove a point. Charlie found a beautiful balance: speaking boldly but always with the aim of pointing people to Christ, not to win an argument.
As believers in Jesus, we’re called to boldly preach and defend God’s Word without resorting to hostility or arrogance. Defending truth with grace means speaking from a place of compassion as Jesus did, choosing words carefully, and remembering that EVERY person is beloved and made in God’s image. Yes, even that person.
1 Peter 5:4 says, “Clothe yourselves, ALL OF YOU, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’”
This posture doesn’t mean you’re compromising God’s truth; instead, you reflect Jesus Himself who was “full of grace and truth.” Notice that He wasn't full of JUST grace or JUST truth – Jesus models the perfect balance of both.
🤔 Which do you tend to lean towards more? Diluted truth? Or a lack of grace?
-
Spend Time With the Lost
Charlie intentionally sought out conversations and connections with people far from God. He could have easily holed up with those who agreed with him – in his church, his friend circle, his office, his family. But no, he chose to reflect Jesus’ heart, who dined with sinners, spoke with outcasts, and crossed cultural lines to bring hope to the broken.
Charlie didn’t wait for the lost to show up in HIS community or HIS church – he went TO them. He found places where they hung out and intentionally scheduled tours to go interact with them. Once again, we see Jesus reflected.
Jesus didn’t spend His days relaxing with those of His same beliefs. He was out among the diverse crowds, teaching, healing, interacting, and speaking life. In Mark 2:17, Jesus says, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
You might feel a prick in your soul here. This lesson is deeply challenging for Western Americans. We’re FAR more comfortable than we want to admit, hanging out in our safe Christian circles and churches.
But Jesus calls us to GO OUT! To schools, neighbors, workplaces, the nations, into uncomfortable conversations. Whenever you spend time with people who don’t know God, light shines in that dark place because the Spirit of God is in you.
🤔 Where do you spend your time?
🤔 How often do you go into a dark place?
🤔 Do you ever seek out the lost or do you wait for them to come to you?

Preach Jesus as the Ultimate Solution to Our Problems
Charlie believed wholeheartedly that no political, cultural, or personal solution could truly heal the world's brokenness. He taught that ONLY Jesus Christ could resolve society's issues. Even though it’s a highly unpopular stance, he consistently pointed people to the only answer to our sin issue: salvation through Christ.
It’s easier than ever to put our trust in manmade fixes. These fixes look different for different people:
AI
Proven systems
Your own reasoning
Hard work
Homeschooling
Fame
Money
Health
The list goes on and on.
But Charlie’s conviction points us back to an unshakeable truth: ONLY JESUS transforms lives. And while people may reject this truth, THIS is the most loving and compassionate truth we can offer our aching, fractured world.
We’ve seen proof more times than we need to that ALL other remedies fail, again and again. JESUS CHRIST is the only answer to all our issues, all of society’s problems, our grievances and wounds. Anything other than that is a weak bandaid that slips off the moment it experiences any sort of pressure.
🤔 What are you putting your trust in?
🤔 What does the world see you putting your trust in?
🤔 Do your words and actions match?

Live With Urgency
Charlie didn’t waste his days chasing trivial pursuits. Eternity was always on his mind, and that urgency shaped how he lived, spoke, and invested his time. He saw every moment as a chance to glorify God and impact others, whether from a public stand or in the privacy of his home.
James 4:13-16 says,
“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.”
This sense of urgency should be a wake-up call for American believers. Life is fleeting. Tomorrow is NEVER promised. But eternity is 100% certain.
I want to clarify that living with urgency does not mean living in anxiety. Urgent living means choosing to live with intention. Instead of your days controlling you, you control your days. You choose what you prioritize and you pour your energy into that.
Practically this means investing in your relationship with God, growing in obedience, and spending time in His Word. When you live with urgency, you respond to God’s call TODAY – you don’t put it off until tomorrow.
🤔 When your time to die comes, will you have invested your time well?
🤔 Will you be able to confidently say you aligned your life with God’s calling?
🤔 What will you regret about how you spent your time?
-
Use Your Platform for Christ
Whether he was speaking to a crowd, chatting on a show, or connecting with an individual, Charlie stewarded his voice and platform excellently. His life and death remind us that every one of us has a platform. It might be a global stage or it might be a dinner table. Whatever stage you have, God gave it to you to use for HIS glory.
You might not realize this, but God has entrusted you with great influence, more than you will ever know. The question isn’t IF you have influence, it’s whether you’ll use it to point people towards Jesus or yourself. There’s no middle ground there. Which one are you?
Whether you’re raising children, leading a team at work, or serving your husband, your influence directly shapes the lives of others.
🤔 How are you using your platforms?
Where Do We Go From Here?
Charlie Kirk is not our highest standard – Jesus is. But while we admire and honor Charlie’s devotion to God, I want to remind you that what he modeled is not complicated or reserved for the “special few.”
We may look at Charlie and see an unattainable walk with God, much like we see Moses or David. So what’s the “secret” to these intimate friendships with God?
This great big secret is this: it’s a simple habit of spending time with God! These “giants of the faith” just soaked their souls in God’s Word and then lived it out, one day at a time. There is no secret formula, or “blessing,” or x-factor to attain this friendship with God.
It’s not complicated.
It’s not out of reach.
The question is, will you choose it? Most people don't. Most prefer to stay in the lukewarm waters of social comfort, dabbling in faith, but never diving into wholehearted devotion. But those who abide and obey, THEY change the course of the world.
Now that Charlie’s earthly mission is complete, who will carry the baton? Who will pick up the microphone and speak truth in love? Who will kneel with a bowl, washing the feet of the weary and forgotten?
Will you?
What’s holding you back?
Friend, let me loud and clear: the time for halfhearted faith is over. It's gone. If ever there was a moment to get off the fence, it’s right now. Not tomorrow. Today. The world needs disciples of Jesus who are on fire – unafraid of what man might do to their earthly bodies, recklessly devoted to Jesus, and filled with grace and truth beyond all cultural standards.
